Academic Work
An overview of my teaching, research interests, and academic background.
Teaching
In the past, I have taught courses in psychology, audio engineering, contemporary music performance, and contemporary music business. I'll highlight a few below:
-
The Art of Listening to Music
This was a course I designed as an elective, meant to help students develop the ability to identify various elements of mixes and the purposes those elements serve in sonic communication.
-
Intro to the Music Industry
In this course, I got the opportunity to teach incoming freshmen the basics of jobs, income streams, and interactions in the music industry. One of my favorite activities I designed was a debate in which groups of students acted as record label executives trying to convince an artist to choose their record deal. This helped them learn the benefits and downfalls of various kinds of record deals and the interests of various parties.
-
Studio Recording
I taught various levels of studio recording, helping students learn how to troubleshoot signal flow, set and achieve sonic goals, etc.
Education
-
Candidate: PhD, Systems Science
Binghamton University (SUNY)
-
Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology

-
Bachelor of Science in Recording Industry Management (Audio Engineering)

Research Interests
I conduct research at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, audio, and systems science. Specifically, I am interested in how to use sonic input to adjust neurological criticality, psychological health, and efficiency of learning processes.
